African Americans who suffer with psoriasis of the scalp can benefit tremendously by using a scalp oil.   Scalp oils are designed to be applied at night and shampooed out in the morning.   The rich oils soften the scales so they can easily be removed when showering. But African American hair is different from Caucasian hair and shampooing too often can make it very dry.   If you choose a scalp oil made from essential oils and botanical extracts it will benefit both your scalp and your hair.   It can be left on the hair and scalp between shampooing and will give your hair a nice shine and tame frizzy hair.   The use of an oil can even help to promote strong healthy hair growth.   However, a scalp oil alone will not control your psoriasis.   Usually a scalp oil must be used together with some type of topical cream or lotion to control the skin condition. You should choose a topical treatment that contains ingredients recognized for the treatment of psoriasis such as salicylic acid or tar.   The treatment cream should also contain some type of rich moisturizing properties so you don’t counter act the oil and dry out your scalp.   You should avoid getting these topical creams on the actual hair as much as possible.   Using a comb to separate the hair will make it much easier to apply the cream directly to the scalp where it is necessary.   With the right combination of scalp oil and treatment cream and African American can control their psoriasis and have healthy looking hair that shines.
